Ember Wood Fired Grill

Date night is a great night especially when it involves a fabulous little restaurant and good eats. Last night, my boyfriend treated me to a lovely dinner in downtown Dover, NH to celebrate my upcoming graduation. He decided on a place neither of us had been to that was in a slightly more upscale setting. Around 6:30pm, we made our way to Ember Wood Fired Grill.

Once there we were seated almost right away, as we had a reservation for 6:45pm. I am so glad he made a reservation because it was quite busy for a Thursday evening! It is a more intimate restaurant, so I would recommend having one to anyone going there for a meal. Regardless, the experience started off seamlessly thanks to the friendly staff!

After mingling with some familiar faces (love small town moments!) and before jumping into the main menu, we started the evening with drinks. He went for a beer on tap and I went with Kung Fu Girl, which is a crisp relatively dry Riesling. The drink menu was quite extensive, and from what others have told me, the cocktails and bar setup are amazing. The options they offered on the main menu itself were amazing in their own right, as well.

The main menu had a variety of interesting and tasty sounding dishes. While the options were limited compared to some places, there would be something for everyone. Between pizza, salads, sandwiches, and main entrees; this menu is impressive. With all of these options, I went with the seared scallop risotto.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy was this meal good! It was a delicious blend between savory and seafood. The scallops were cooked perfectly leaving that delicate buttery consistency... they just melt in your mouth! The risotto was some of the best I have had. It was just the right amount of creamy. To breakup the savoriness, various veggies were added to the risotto, like peas and fiddleheads. Topped with bean sprouts, this meal had kicks of fresh earthy flavors along with those savory and sweet seafood bites. If I could have this meal every night, I would.

Overall, I am very pleased with my meal and experience at this restaurant. The big question after any first meal at a restaurant is, would you go back? In this case, this is a big YES from both of us. While it is pricier, it is a great place for special occasions or if you're looking for something that is both a little casual and a little upscale.

Highly recommend this place if you're in the Dover area looking for just drinks or a meal!
