Small Business Saturday is here! While it's important to support small shops year round, a day dedicated to it is surely the perfect time to do so and no doubt valued greatly by the owners. Not only is this organized day of shopping and discounts here, but also the holiday season, which means an influx in consumer purchasing. So while you're out finding that perfect gift, might as well stop by somewhere local where you are helping people in the community, as well as a shoo-in to find something unique! Here are my top shops in my community:
This store has been a long time favorite of mine. When I moved to the seacoast and explored downtown Portsmouth for the first time, this was one of the first stores I went into. With the beautiful blue storefront and show-stopping window fronts, I knew I had to go in. Inside you will find stationary heaven. From handmade cards, posters, to jewelry, wrapping paper, and even cookbooks; this store is one of the best to stop at in Portsmouth!
Stonewall Kitchen
While Stonewall Kitchen isn't a shop unique to only Portsmouth, it is a local love. Right over the bridge through Kittery to York, ME resides the HQ for this flavorful company. Stonewall Kitchen has some of the best jams and specialty foods around. Can't wait to dive into their seasonal collection, including their gingerbread cookie mix!
In between all of that shopping it is important to take breaks and grab a bite to eat. Right on Congress Street sits this authentic French cafe. With a chill ambience, classically chic setup, and gourmet pastries; it is hard not to find something to love about this place. They have the best macarons, too!
Mint Boutique
A relatively new shop in town, this boutique is for the trendy gal. From evening wear to athletic attire, Mint has some mint clothing and accessory options available!

At this point, Pickwick's is on the list of tourist attractions for visitors. It is such a quirky shop filled with books, perfumes, novelty gifts, and all of the Harry Potter items you could hope for. When you step through the door you are transported to an old seaside shoppe filled with unique tidbits and finds. Old time tunes lull through the store as employees dressed in Victorian/Edwardian attire greet and assist you. They also have some great flannels that many locals have. Check out some of their other shops in town, too!
Macro Polo
Pickwick's is certainly unique, but Macro Polo is filled with whimsical delights. They are a novelty shop with kooky cards and books, memes and jokes galore, along with many toys and some clothing. It is worth a stop in for a quick chuckle.

There are a number of kitchen stores in Portsmouth, but this is one of my faves. Similar to Stonewall Kitchen, you can taste test jams and such, and even wine. Their product offerings are primarily local within New Hampshire and New England. It is quite expansive and offers a variety of kitchen supplies and accessories.
Nahcotta
This is a newer store in town as well that offers a variety of art supplies. From gouache all the way to your favorite fine tip pens. They also have exhibits throughout the store featuring local artists. This is just a bright creative space!
