Did you know I love fall? While I will never say no to pumpkin picking, hot apple cider, and cozy nights in; what I love about fall extends beyond that. Beyond the crisp air that gets cooler by the day and the changing of the leaves. Fall reminds me of the beauty of change and the importance of letting things go. It represents the oh so necessary and beautiful transitions of life. There is simply a refreshing energy about autumn.
Having finished undergrad but a few months ago, to say the time since then has been a simple transition is an understatement. In many ways I feel as if I am wandering through a corn maze trying my hardest to navigate through only to run into dead end after dead end. This isn't an uncommon feeling for people who recently entered the "real world," right? I imagine it takes time for many to get their feet on the ground. That reassuring thought doesn't completely remedy the uncertainty, however. What has helped is reflecting on this change of season and the lessons I have learned in this season of life.
- For one, there's no better time than the present to embrace change, let alone when the world is physically doing so around you. I find comfort in that. It is easy to default to your comfort zone, trust me I get it, but I have found that keeps you closed off to change. Open up and bloom.
- I also find comfort in now being able to let go of what my expectations were (slightly easier) and having the courage to charge head on to whatever I am faced with. There's something to be said for relinquishing control and rolling with the punches. This has been a challenging lesson to learn over the years and is something I have to be mindful of. Nonetheless, it is a necessary skill.
- In those low moments, it is ok to feel as though you've fallen and are lost, so long as you are willing to get back up and keep stepping on eventually. Even the smallest of steps move you forward.
So yes, fall is my favorite time of year. It is my favorite time of year because of the energy and environment it creates. One that encourages and embraces change and the rollercoaster transition that comes along with it. Looking forward to documenting it, as it should be one hell of a ride!
Why do you love fall?
Sincerely,
