Day Trip to Kennebunkport, Maine

It is no surprise that I'm a fan of day trips. When I'm craving a bit of wandering, I love having the ability to be able to hop in my car or on the train and head to a new destination. One of my favorite places to go; especially this time of year is to Kennebunkport, Maine.

Kennebunkport, Maine is a quintessential coastal New England village. It is home to the well-loved Goose Rocks Beach, little subset area of Cape Porpoise, and quaint Dock Square. Kennebunkport is even home to the Bush Compound.

Though I recommend visiting for more than 24 hours if you can, even a day trip to Kennebunkport is enough to fall in love with this town. The best way to experience this town and it's different subsets is to simply walk around if you are able. The following are my top stops to see when in Kennebunkport:

Maine Street
All along Maine Street, there is no shortage of meticulously maintained historic homes. Many date back to the 18th and 19th century. This seaside village began flourishing during and after the American Revolution due to it's contribution to the shipbuilding industry, thus an abundance of grand abodes. The one pictured above is the Captain Daniel Walker house built in 1784. It is a striking deep navy adorned with quoins along the edge, keyblock window lintels, and a vibrant red door. You can even rent this gorgeous property! I highly recommend simply walking Maine Street and surrounding ones near downtown to capture the full essence of this town's beauty!

Satellite Donuts
Snag a sweet treat to kick off your trip! Here you will find a variety of delectable donuts sure to make anyone's mouth water.

Dock Square Coffee House
To go with your donut, you need coffee, so stop by this sweet little cafe right in the square.

Shop Dock Square
As with many New England villages, there are always some number of shops and boutiques to explore. Kennebunkport has a variety of fabulous ones. My favorite is Daytrip Society filled with nifty nautical apparel and nicknacks. Beach Grass is an adorable coastal decor and homey bits boutique with the sweetest shop associates, as well. Of course because I'm a sweet tooth, The Candyman is another fave. This shop is jam-packed with all the sweets you'd want along with delicious homemade fudge. Seas The Day and Saxony Imports round out my top places to shop in the square.

Art Galleries
This lovely community has several galleries to explore. Abacus and Maine Art Hill have some beautiful and unique pieces to appreciate. Highly recommend checking out the art scene in town!

Drive Along Ocean Avenue
For unmatched views of the ocean and stunning mansions lining the coast, drive along Ocean Ave. Going on long winding drives are one of my favorite ways to experience an area, and find a bit of serenity, as well.

Cape Pier Chowder House
What better way to end the day than finishing it off with a cup of fresh chowdah? Admittedly I have yet to eat here yet, but I've heard fantastic things about the quality and taste of the cuisine. Nothing like fresh seafood straight from the water!

Have you been to Kennebunkport?

Sincerely,
