How I Style Over The Knee Boots

It wasn't until this past winter season that I welcomed a beautiful pair of over the knee boots into my ever growing shoe collection. Contrary to popular belief, over the knee boots are actually incredibly easy to style. Though they are certainly something trendy and a statement piece, there are distinct ways to align all that they are to your personal style. The outfits below are a representation of how I style over the knee boots and how they fit into my own style.

*from left to right*

Look One
This look I have called “70s Chic.” With the button-down corduroy skirt, turtleneck, and tall boots it all feels very retro. The tip I would take from this outfit as a whole is to find inspiration from the past, while including modern colors that compliment the boots. When dealing with pairing over the knee boots with skirts and dresses, note that you will want to keep the gap between the two pieces minimal to medium size.

Look Two
With the loose sweater and leggings, this outfit is very much my “Comfy & Casual” look. Over the knee boots are one of those items that you can absolutely dress up or down. You don’t have to be kiddy cornered into dressing a certain way with these boots, as the variety of outfits I have for you clearly proves. So wear those leggings with them!

Look Three
The not so “Colorful” look that this is was exactly what I was going for. A sure fire way to look stunning and chic with any pair of shoes is to color coordinate and continue one color all the way through. As you can see, every inch of this outfit is black, with exception of the scarf and hat. You can choose to break it up with color, but otherwise keeping the base monotone like so.

Look Four
If a monotone outfit isn’t for you, opt for something with “Contrasting” colors. This is a great way to pull off the smart look, while also bringing attention to those boots. When it comes to contrasting it’s all about complimenting.

Look Five
For this final look, I wanted to emphasize the suede material the boots are made of. To do so, I kept the pant’s color complimenting and subtle, while the sweater was matching. On top of those fairly neutral pieces is faux fur; a completely different material adding 3-dimension to the outfit. As you can see, “Mixing Materials” can bring an entirely different feel to an outfit. It’s like having two statement pieces that don’t compete.

Bonus Look: Found in this past post.
