It was only recently when I noticed that some of my most popular posts are those related to interior design; specifically my style. Given that, I thought it appropriate to create this post. Even past the increased page views, what gets me most excited about having posts focused on interiors be well-liked is receiving queries or compliments regarding them. If you know me at all, you know how much I love design and decor. Basically any chance I get to discuss my personal interior style and aesthetics gets me bubbling; especially when others share the same enthusiasm! Below you’ll find how I class my style, where I find inspiration, and tips in achieving my look.

My Style
Naturally my style has evolved over the years as I have as a whole. When I was young, my style really wasn’t my own and was generic. It was either influenced by my friends, media, or my mom. As I’ve gotten older and have become more in-tune with who I am and what I need in order to feel positive, a definitive style has emerged from this. This has left me with the tendency to prefer the simple things. Perhaps it’s my ever growing realization that I don't need to have an excess amount of possessions in order to be happy, or as simple as liking aesthetically appealing clean lines that explains this. Regardless, I do know that not having a boat load of crap cluttered around, while still maintaining a sense of warmth and coziness is something I need in order to feel weightless and comforted. That is why I’ve strived to surround myself with the Minimalist Rustic Chic style.

Tips
Obviously I’m aware that this style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if it happens to be yours and you're looking for ways to incorporate it or refine it in your current situation, hopefully some of these tips will help.
-Down-size… a lot
Stick around for a future post about how to do so efficiently and effectively.
-Have a strick color palette
I tend to stick with various whites, black, and copper.
-Go for simple shapes & lines
Avoid ornate pieces when possible, as they are busy and overwhelming.
-Add texture & depth
By doing so, it will allow you to achieve the 'rustic' aspect of this style. You can do this with woods, metal, glasses, stone, fur, plants, decor, etc.
-Question whether you really need an item before buying it
This will make future down-sizes more manageable.
-Before you buy, ask yourself, will it match?
Cohesion is key when it comes to this style.
-Cool fill lighting
This type of lighting will achieve that light, bright, and airy natural effect.
-Balance
Don’t flood one area of your space with furniture and decor. Have the weight at any section of the room equal to others. This may mean you have to be creative with storage and layout; keeping in mind you ultimately want it to be aesthetically appealing and 'minimal.'
-Quality over quantity
Everything falls back on this. When it comes to minimalism, only valuable and useful items are essential.
What's your interior design style?

I started reading http://www.becomingminimalist.com/ to get rid of the crap I gathered over the years. But it never gave me a proper visual of a style that I like. Your post does and that makes me happy because it can look cozy and homie without looking empty.
ReplyDeleteLovely tips hun! I agree with you 100%!
