Top 10 Ways to De-Stress

Between balancing work, the end of semester crunch, pursing my passions, and Christmas being right around the corner; these last few weeks have been quite stressful for me. If I’m honest, I've needed all of the help I can get in order to keep my stress in check! As stress is inevitable for everyone, it is extremely important for both mental and physical health to find ways to manage it. And it can be done! We all have the power within ourselves to control how stress affects us. Here are some of the ways that help me manage!

Organize Anything & Everything

When it comes to cleaning and organizing, it can arguably be a stressor for many people. However if you’re anything like me, you find relief in the motions of cleaning. Over the years I’ve taught myself to enjoy this task and a half, and now I’m grateful for the fact that as I’m able to de-stress during the process, ultimately it’s helping me to get my life together, too. Win-win!

Drink Green Tea

There’s just something about a nice cup of tea that is so soothing and comforting. Perhaps it’s the ritual of preparing green tea… or the naturally occurring chemical theanine that is actually a relaxant and has a calming affect. Who knows!

Listen to Music

Music is said to affect our moods. So simply pop on some chill tunes, and vibe. Here are some of my favorite tracks at the moment!

This de-stressor is one of my personal favorites. It’s all about mindfulness, being with your thoughts, and just taking a step back from it all. Check out this article on how to meditate and incorporate it into your daily routine!

Have a Bubble Bath

Candles burning, bubbles glistening, aromas wafting, light music filling the silence- how much more calming can it get? Ease your mind and muscles by treating yourself to a nice bath!

Make Time for Hobbies/Passions

Whether your hobby/passion is blogging, reading, crafting, etc; be sure to allot yourself time to focus on what you love. You’ll find that doing more of what you love will make you happier and more optimistic. And that state of mind is the ultimate method to cope with stress. (This de-stressor is one of the inspirations behind this blog post!)

One of the activities most associated with stress relief is exercise. It’s been scientifically proven to benefit those dealing with stress and even depression due to the release of endorphins. To quote Legally Blonde, “Endorphins make you happy!” If exercise isn’t a habit you’ve yet developed, or you’re looking for something on the gentler side, check out these channels below for easy routines to incorporate into daily life!

Watch a Film

Sometimes a feel-good film can be just enough to make you feel better! If you’re not in the best headspace, watch a comedy. A good laugh goes a long way!

Be Spontaneous

This de-stressor is what you make of it. Whether your idea of spontaneity is simply getting outside for a half an hour, or going as far as to explore a nearby town, wildness, etc; it is imperative to know when to break up that stress-inducing routine. Implementing moments of spontaneity makes the mundane more manageable.

Personally, being able to unplug and disconnect from the digital world is the hardest one of these de-stressors for me to practice consistently. When many hours from hobby, to work, to personal entertainment is spent online it is difficult to step away. But when you do, it is amazing what you experience. Even if just for a few minutes or hours you put your devices out of sight and out of mind, you will find you have a better chance to refocus your thoughts and be mindful, and that in itself is a relief!
